┌───────────────────────────┐
│ LOCAL - WatchDog Monitor │
└───────────────────────────┘
Author: Jonathan Gillies, SysOp CentraLink (602) 254-9031
This is FREEWARE! Take it!
------------------------------------------------------------
DESCRIPTION:
Most DOOR programs nowadays have communications monitors
build-in. Therefore, they claim you need not run WatchDog.
I have had several DOOR programs 'Hang' when a caller
hangs up. My system locks up, and other users cannot gain
access. This is why I do not trust most DOOR programs.
The problem with WatchDog comes into play when you want
to run the DOOR in local mode. If a carrier is not present
then your system reboots. No carrier is present in local
operation. WatchDog will reboot you machine!
Local makes it very easy to run Watchdog during remote
operation only. Why take a chance?
Here is a sample DOOR batch file:
ECHO OFF
C:
CD \PCB\DOORS\GAME1
GAME1 GAME1.CFG
CD \PCB
ECHO ON
BOARD
Using this batch file, you assume the GAME1 program will
monitor the carrier and return to PCBoard if carrier is lost.
Change the batch file to look like this:
ECHO OFF
LOCAL PCBOARD.SYS <-- New line
IF EXIST $REMOTE$.SYS THEN WATCHDG1 ON <-- New line
CD \PCB\DOORS\GAME1
GAME1 GAME1.CFG
CD \PCB
IF EXIST $REMOTE$.SYS THEN WATCHDG1 OFF <-- New line
ECHO OFF
BOARD
Running WatchDog insures that the System will re-boot if
carrier is lost.
Don't take a chance with flaky DOOR programs! Use Local!
OPERATION:
Local only requires one parameter, the path name of the
PCBOARD.SYS file. If you run Local in the \PCB directory
then you only need name the PCBOARD.SYS file as a
parameter. You can include the full path name if desired.
Included in this Archive:
LOCAL.EXE <-- The executable file
LOCAL.DOC <-- This doc file
WATCHDOG.ARC <-- The WatchDog archive, incase you don't
have it!
SAMPLE <-- A sample shell DOOR batch file
This program is fully supported by:
CentraLink BBS, Phoenix AZ, (602) 254-9031
ASU Underground, Phoenix AZ, (602) 967-0498
